Food that helps keep your hair healthy

The causes of hair loss vary from stress, to genetic background, to hormonal problems, and these are just a few of the possible options. We cannot influence some of them (e.g. genetic factors), others can be treated effectively, but there are also some that you can sometimes eliminate on their own, e.g. with an appropriate diet. The way you eat has a huge impact on your health and the general condition of your body. Thus, greater control over the products you eat is one of the few things you can do for your hair without even stepping out of the door – preferably right away!

Conscious nutrition

Eating foods rich in nutrients has a huge impact on the condition of your hair. To avoid further hair loss and improve hair quality, enrich your diet with Brazil nuts, tangerines, salmon and eggs. Brazil nuts constitute an excellent source of selenium and this mineral boosts hair growth. The recommended upper limit for selenium intake in an adult's diet is 400 micrograms, and a single Brazil nut offers as many as 68-91 micrograms of this component so valuable for your hair. Vitamin C (to be found, for example, in tangerines) also plays a vital role in our diet, as it makes it easier for the body to absorb iron, which is not without influence on your hair either. Among other foods, rich sources of iron can include red meat and spinach. If hair loss is caused by inflammation, sources of omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, walnuts, chia seeds or flax seeds may prove helpful. Eggs, which are full of biotin and vitamin B, also boost the condition of your hair. Eggs greatly influence better hair growth, as they give it shine and make it stronger. Those who cannot eat eggs should provide biotin from other sources such as almonds, avocados or salmon as already mentioned.

If you are using social media, you must have come across the popular #badhairday hashtag at least once. It is exactly the wrong diet that is one of the reasons for the “bad day” of your hair. Poor food can make your hair greasy or look unhealthy already at first glance. If this is not changed soon, the hair becomes more fragile, ends start splitting, and finally, hairs fall out. To improve the condition of your hair, introduce new eating habits and eat products full of valuable minerals.
